Foundation Quarter Horse Collector’s  Edition Vol. II

Like the Collector’s 2010 Issue, this all-gloss color magazine is destined to become a unique “Coffee Table Classic Magazine” honoring the American heritage of the Foundation Quarter Horse, and will be cherished and reread for years to come by Quarter Horse lovers of all types and disciplines. And, as was the case with the 2010 edition, Frank Holmes will provide all of the editorial content. Here are a few of his thoughts on his contributions:

“Stallion editions have been around for decades and they have provided a valuable service the western horse breeder and enthusiast. That said, all of the highly-successful horse breeders that I’ve interviewed and profiled over the last 50 years have been quick to give their broodmares the lion’s share of the credit for their programs’ achievements.

“In our Collector’s 2012 Issue, many of the great foundation Quarter Horse mares of bygone days will be featured in a way never before seen. Among the noteworthy females that will be accorded one-page profiles are: Little Sue, Diamond Oakes, Scarface S, Miss Chubby, Billie Silvertone, Panzarita Daugherty, Maudie Williams, Shady Dell, Barbara Star, Sleet Storm, Skipperette, Hobo Sue, Triangle Tookie, Codalena, Sangaree, Patty’s Queen, Spanish Joy, Dollie Pine and Dot Pat Star.

“I am also excited to contribute seven brand-new features to the Collector’s 2012  Issue as follows:

  • Haythorn Ranch Horse Roots – how the legendary Nebraska Sandhills ranch assembled its first stallions and mares.
  • Dixie Beach and Lady Coolidge – two full sisters that have had an amazing impact on the breed.
  • Birdtail Ranch Horse Roots – how AQHA Hall of Fame inductees Doug and Nancy Dear of Simms, Montana, went about assembling a watershed breeding program that is still alive and well.
  • Little Meow – one of the Rocky Mountain Region’s greatest early-day show and race mares
  • Skipper W and the Golden Age – legendary horseman Leroy Webb relives his tenure as the trainer of many of the greatest Wiescamp champions of all-time.
  • Jimmie Randals Tribute – a profile of one the Quarter Horse industry’s great personalities.
  • Quien Sabe Ranch Horse Roots – the story of Joe Kirk Fulton’s legendary West Texas family of halter and performance horses.

“I remain extremely proud of the part I was able to play in the production of the first NFQHA Collector’s Edition. That fact notwithstanding, I can truthfully say that, from a purely editorial standpoint, I think the 2012 issue is more dynamic and sure to be kept and treasured for years to come.”
